Welcome to Beginning Magic

Welcome, welcome! This course is for you! I hope it feels nourishing, thought-provoking and supportive. As I mentioned in our welcome video, this process is yours.

Everything here is an invitation— nothing is required. As you move through, feel free to trust yourself over the words I have written, honor your pacing, and tend to yourself in any ways you need to.

You might have different practices and perspectives than some of the suggestions here, and I honor that.

You are welcome to adjust, adapt, and take what is here as inspiration (as well as disregard anything that doesn't feel right for you).

My humble hope is that this material, the prompts and the customizable intake templates and documents feel supportive to you in your journey of reimagining and refining your intake process.

The intake process is for you, your practice and your clients. We'll get into this a bit later in the course, but I want to start by naming that your practice might be different than my practice. Your lived experience might be different than mine. Your values and mission might be different than mine.

You are welcome to consider what I share in this course as starting places to begin envisioning how you might want to craft your process to better honor your practice's values and your client's needs.

I will be sharing some trauma informed intake practices, and I also want to acknowledge:

  • the wisdom that you bring!
  • your practice + goals (which might not always be aligned with what I share - and what if that's more than okay?)
  • my axes of privilege and my shortcomings

For example, when I write about accessibility and inclusion, I also am holding that I am a white, cisgender human, so my perspective is shaped (and frankly, limited) by this, much as I am committed to an accessible practice.

That said, I will be sharing what I know while holding space for your wisdom, lived experience and more to inform your intake process.

I honor you for committing to your practice, your process and your clients. Thank you for being here! When you're ready, let's begin.
